The United Kingdom is no longer a part of EASA as it left the European Union in 2020. Upon receiving an application for the issue of a high risk commercial specialised operations authorisation, the DAC will review the operator’s risk assessment documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs), related to one or more planned operations and developed in accordance with the relevant requirements of Annex VIII (Part-SPO). The requirements for EASA aircraft are set out in EASA Air Operations Regulation (Commission Regulation (EU) No. 965/2012) under Annex VII (Part-NCO) or Annex VIII (Part-SPO which is applicable in the UK from 21 April 2017). Much of Part-NCO is very similar to what’s already in existing regulations. It’s just that EASA likes to specify everything and apply it across the board. Good news part one is that there’s nothing too onerous or difficult in Part-NCO. You’re probably complying with most of it already.
