ISO 22000 sets out specific food safety requirements for organizations in the food chain. One such requirement is that organizations establish, implement and maintain prerequisite programmes (PRP) to assist in controlling food safety hazards (ISO 22000:2005, 7.2).

Scheme. FSSC 22000 contains a complete certification Scheme for Food Safety Management Systems based on existing standards for certification (ISO 22000, ISO 22003 and technical specifications for sector PRPs).

In November 2020, FSSC 22000 has published Version 5.1 of its Scheme, which is the newest version of the FSSC 22000 Scheme. Version 5.1 will be applicable from 1 April 2021. On this page you will find Version 5 of the Scheme. This can be done at a surveillance or renewal visit. If sites wish they can be certified to version 4.1 immediately. SGS was recently accredited by UKAS to FSSC version 4.1 so we are now able to deliver accredited certification against the standard.
