A total of 39 researchers submitted applications for this year’s ERC Starting Grants. Fifteen of these were approved, which equates to a success rate of 38.5%: a record high for ETH Zurich. Last year, 20% of the Starting Grant applications were successful.

The Talents @UniPD programme is aimed at identifying outstanding candidates for the “ERC Starting Grant 2021" and the “ERC Consolidator Grant 2021" calls, funded by the European Commission Framework programme Horizon Europe, with deadlines March 9th, 2021, and April 20th, 2021, respectively. ERC Starting Grants are awarded to talented young scientists, with over three and up to eight years of experience since completion of PhD. The 1.5 milion euro grants give them the opportunity to form their own research group. Three researchers at Karolinska Institutet have been awarded the ERC Starting Grant 2019: Jenny Mjösberg, Maria Genander, and newly recruited Pia Dosenovic. Their projects concern inflammatory bowel disease, esophageal cancers, and HIV vaccine, respectively. In all, the ERC will support 408 early-career researchers from around the world with its prestigious starting grant this year. ERC Synergy Grants (ERC SyG) Enabling 2-4 Principal Investigators and their teams to bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources in new ways, in order to address ambitious research problems.
